About

sofi Hailu

Sofia Hailu is a German born American artist of Ukrainian and Ethiopian Heritage. Raised in Denver, Colorado, Hailu has interned for local artists since highschool and curated her first show featuring 22 artists composed of students, teachers and local artists. Though she went to the Denver School of Science and Technology she has always gravitated towards the arts. Within two years at the University of Denver, she switched from a microbiology major to a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art. She used this time to explore how art can better help her understand her biracial identity and her own heritage. In the academic year of 2018-19 Hailu had the opportunity to study abroad at Goldsmiths University of London. Her experience in London strengthened her interests in language, migration, the African diaspora, and music. Her work has been featured in the Davis Gallery at the University of Denver and Denver Digerati’s Supernova Animation Festival. She currently works as an ArtLab Facilitator at Platteforum and the Art Manager at Azari Rug Gallery.
